I've been sugar-free 4 years ago and it still blows my mind how many ways sugar shows up in things. All the different names for sugar. It is definitely worth taking your time to check the ingredients in everything you buy before they go in your basket and your body 

Make informed decisions about your health and wellness.  I bought Kalm magnesium the other day and it says sugar-free on the front but in the fine print under bulking agent: was Maltadextrose!!! 

Can you believe that... Yes, that's still sugar. Why am I sharing this...because even though the front packaging said sugar-free, I had to read the fine print and ingredient list to see there was sugar in it.  I have been sugar-free for years and in a moment of rushing, I fell into this trap again.

It is our responsibility to advocate for ourselves by not falling for this. It's definitely worth taking your time to check the ingredients in everything you buy before they go in your basket and your body. 

Different terms for sugar that will be used on the packaging. It is important for us to familiarise ourselves with the terms. 

I did some research in the beginning and I found 61 different names for sugar. That's right, you ready correctly....61! That is crazy right? If you would like to become more familiar with this list then click here.

Once you start doing this exercise, you will be surprised the number of things that have sugar in it like some salad dressings, some ketchup brands and other 

Why is sugar so bad? It tells our pancreas to release insulin, it raises your blood glucose and tells your liver to release more glycogen stores, which if you are not moving and using up, will get stored as body fat. So unconsciously it is making us unhealthy and can contribute to di-sease in the body. 

Yes, it does mean that you have to check everything before you buy it. Yes, it does mean that in the beginning, your shopping takes a bit longer because you are being a conscious consumer by checking the ingredients of everything before it goes into your shopping trolley. When I went sugar-free, I did this and I still do this today. It definitely gets easier and you begin to learn which brands to go for that can help you the more familiar you become. 

It's definitely worth taking your time to check the ingredients in everything you buy before they go in your basket and your body
